These are 'forced' things, just as parents 'forced' their babies to eat green veges, and behave., are challenges to us. We are 'forcing' us to give peace to others, when shaking hand which is a good thing - ie trying to be christ-like :)Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-206524469710613848.post-37948533202277958212012-02-14T02:12:02.875-06:002012-02-14T02:12:02.875-06:00We have this "sign of peace" handshaking...We have this "sign of peace" handshaking in the UK for years. It put my wife and I off of going to church regularly, we pray at home. There were people wouldn't even LOOK at you in the street or talk, being forced to shake hands. If it is a "forced" thing, it doesn't mean anything. If I'm ever sick or feeling like I am getting sick, I don't offer my hands to others (nor do I shake their hands during the sign of peace) and I think that most people do the same. I also don't obligate anyone to hold my hand either by grabbing theirs.

But as someone I know explained it, the "Our Father" is not a solitary prayer, it is about community "Our" Father, give "us" "our" daily bread, etc. So I think it's fine. But I also think it's a matter of opinion and also a regional thing (living in Indiana last year and in NC this year, I've learned that it's not traditional in those places - but in CA and CO where I grew up, it was in every church I ever attended). And while I think that Mass should be the same in many ways, it's a shame when we no longer have room for regional differences. Mass in the European countries I've been to is significantly different than Mass here because of regional differences, even though all the words are the same and that's a good thing because we are a diverse community of God. Expecting it to be the same throughout the US isn't very practical.Mandi Richardshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14641577291206420549noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-206524469710613848.post-1586889832845302562011-10-14T07:01:03.534-05:002011-10-14T07:01:03.534-05:00This one, I really don't like. I usually go to the early Mass on Sunday, so there are often enough gaps that I can get away with closing my eyes and bowing my head long enough that people leave alone. (I guess I'm going to have to come to terms with the fact that I'm starting to become a crank!)Catholic Mutthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10254315970336710941noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-206524469710613848.post-42849508115113375152011-10-14T06:16:31.991-05:002011-10-14T06:16:31.991-05:00Oh boy Jamie! Sign of peace, we'll acknowledge with a hand shake or a nod, however the Lord's Prayer has me totally caught off balance. My husband and I refrain. We also don't lift our hands in prayer. We were born and raised in Catholicism and these outward motions and signs are do not make us comfortable. The charasmatic movement wasn't up our alley either. I am anxious to see how things will evolve now with the New Roman Missal release.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
